Uzbekistan has ratified the International Labor Organization Convention on Equal Opportunities and Equal Treatment for Men and Women Workers with Family Responsibilities.
If women participated equally with men in economic activities, national income in Uzbekistan would increase by 29%. This finding comes from a country gender assessment conducted by the World Bank with the assistance of the UK government.
Clause preventing women from driving buses and heavy vehicles was removed from the Cabinet of Ministers' decree on public transportation driver training. The changes stem from a year-long effort by a joint UNDP and Ministry of Transport team working on the Rustaveli Street reconstruction project.
